90% of the content on Medium is tilting me. Can't get past a headline or two paragraphs.

Here's how it happened, what nobody tells you, what actually matters...

Sounds familiar?

Goshhhh, for fuck sake. The list goes on, and I can't bear it anymore. Blog posts get propped up as authentic pieces, with an underlying motive to sell a dream, a course, or a bit of clout.

Medium was never my favorite platform, but I need it now for distribution, so I cherry-pick pieces of my own content to post there. Only in the last few weeks did I start taking the platform seriously. I began browsing the feed, reading the recommendation emails they send me.

Time after time, I got disappointed. I can't read a blog post where I can smell that the content is mostly AI-written, not AI-assisted.

And you're not going to tell me a human being would use the word "actually" three times in a few lines of text, the same word you can see highlighted over and over in the screenshot below.

When I see that, I lose interest completely. Maybe the story underneath is real. Maybe the experience happened exactly like they say. But the author didn't bother tidying up their own words. That's laziness dressed up as content, and I can't give a fuck about it.

Look, my posts are written by my own hand. I use AI to help with cleanup, grammar, and a bit of polish. But go through my entire feed, and you won't find anything that can be replicated, replaced, or knocked out easily.

My process is draft, think, re-read, edit, ask AI to spot mistakes or restructure a phrase, polish, then I read the whole damn thing twice more before I hit publish.

What I find on Medium is the opposite. Heavily AI-driven, without enough human underneath it.

The un-SEO experiment

I made a choice to un-SEO my entire blog. My titles and my content are close to the opposite of what SEO wants. Legacy search would go nuclear if it crawled what I write.

I could have gone for clicks, optimized everything for traffic, written the same posts as everyone else on Medium. I chose not to, because just thinking about writing that way would tank my actual writing performance.

I'm not built for dumbass listicles or stories that only make half sense.

The standard nonsense

The biggest joke on Medium in 2026 is still the same formula. Ten tips to make money. A list of tools to make money with Claude. Systems to generate income with AI. Who reads this in 2026?

They talk like they've cracked how to make money with systems, digital products, passive income, then fucking paywall the exact post that claims to teach you how.

That's peak irony for me. The only one winning is whoever wrote the article, likely recycled, likely AI-assisted, hoping their following buys in.

They're missing the point.

Why I document the mess

I made a choice a while back about how to document my journey. Every struggle, every pivot, smart or dumb, goes on the blog. Including the vibe-coding journey, unfiltered, not after I've already found success.

I've run businesses for twenty years now. But this pivot, becoming a solo dev, a solo builder, a content creator, is different from anything I've done before.

I don't boast about the twenty years, because it isn't relevant here. What's relevant is what I'm doing right now, how I got here, the same way I wrote about where I'm at with TWO Docs.

Most writers on Medium miss that posting only the highlight reel might work short-term, but it does nothing for who you are. They post the wins, and maybe, once in a while, a single manufactured failure.

Anyone can fake one candid post about failing. Nobody fakes a hundred candid posts about mundane technical bottlenecks, reversed decisions, and real operational costs, spread out over months.

The volume is the proof. That's what tells you a real person is in there doing the work.

What I'm looking for instead

I write almost daily now. Mental notes, documentation, thinking out loud. So naturally I go looking for something on Medium that resonates, someone doing something similar.

Instead, I keep running into the same "here's what nobody tells you" formula, recycled version after recycled version.

So many writers lean on keyword research, tool stacks, prompt engineering. Anyone with a budget or an LLM subscription can copy that. But a raw strategy built on ego death, high-volume execution, and living a dense life, that's uncopyable. Nobody can fake the years.

Not everything on Medium is bad. There's good writing buried in there. It just takes real effort to sift past everything chasing clicks to find it.

For now I'll keep publishing pieces there, because the distribution is something I still need as a content creator. But this, the unfiltered version, lives here first. That's not fucking changing.
