Monday preparation #3: mostly surviving

It's official. I broke my blogging streak yesterday. For the first time in ages, a day went by without a new post, and the reason is simple: I'm dead. Moving between two homes took a much bigger toll on me than I expected.

But I think it's okay.

This is also the last blog post I'm writing from a dining table. Tomorrow I'm out of my old home and into the new one, behind a desk again. That alone will help, because I'm fucking tired of doing all my work from a table that's meant for dinner.

This post will probably be a bit shorter than usual, but I still want to prepare for the week mentally.

Knowing my own limits

I have to admit I didn't have the willpower to write or do much else, aside from some ideas and concept designs I worked through with Claude (Opus 5.5). I knew this was going to happen. We all have two hands, one brain, and two legs.

This isn't a complaint. It's more about knowing my own limits, and I don't think that's a bad thing. My recent four to five months of intense building, writing, and thinking needed a break. I just didn't expect the break to come in the form of cardboard boxes.

So in the spirit of finding a second breath after moving like a maniac, I'm preparing myself for the week.

Mostly surviving

I already know I'll mostly survive this week. Moving is one thing. Unpacking, tidying up, and settling into a new house for real is something else, and I need to get used to it.

Then there's my cat. My spoiled little brat acts like a chicken at home on a normal day, so a new place is going to scare the hell out of him. He'll need a lot of attention, and he'll get it.

That said, looking back at my Friday rundown post, I still think I can get through most of what I listed. But the list is still fucking huge.

The bar for this week

My approach this week is mostly light content creation. That means dragging my ass over the finish line with the last blog posts for Indie Hacker Blog, finalizing the Random Facts MVP, and building the website for OnPoint VC.

I've been spending a lot of time iterating on the OnPoint VC site. It's the first real step in sorting out the Ryoka Group and OnPoint VC identity crisis I wrote about in my October outlook. This is the layout I currently have in mind:

So the bar looks like this: record some bedtime stories for Story Brew, write mostly content, and build nothing except the OnPoint VC website. I don't want to set my expectations too high, but I don't want to set them too low either. Then I'll see where I get on Friday.

Random Facts

Random Facts is back on Vercel. I ditched Netlify, so what's left is mostly ironing out the basic details. A final check on the standard pages, adding a disclaimer, and all the usual blabber.

Random facts about page

Maybe I'll add a dark mode to the site too.

After that, the plan is to add 30 to 100 facts every week until I have around 12 categories filled and at least 1,000 facts. Right now, 500 are vetted and added. It's a filler project to expand the portfolio.

TWO Docs website, if there's room

If I still have the time and brain space, I'll try to improve the TWO Docs website.

I already asked Claude to go through it with me, because some of the features weren't listed on the site yet. We also tried building a new, better layout for it. I'm letting that one sink in before I continue.

Losing momentum

I've been away from my desk and out of my busy streak for a few days now, and it shows. I've kind of lost momentum.

I think this happens to a lot of solo builders. Nobody notices when you stop. There's no standup, no colleague asking where the update is. So you lose momentum, you start procrastinating, and before you fucking know it, you're not doing anything useful anymore.

Two slow days turn into a slow week without anyone, including you, deciding it should.

Not this time, mfer!

It isn't revenue. Let's be real, I have zero revenue right now.

It's smaller things. Like the Spotify numbers for Story Brew, where one story after a long break was enough to show me people are still listening. And re-reading my plan for October, which gives me a real boost every time I open it.

Revenue is the number everyone asks about. It's not the one that tells me whether something is alive yet.

Back to the boxes

Sigh. It's been fucking tiring, but I'm ready to tackle this week as best I can.

Tonight is my last night working from this dining table. Tomorrow there's a desk, a scared cat, and a lot of boxes that won't unpack themselves. I'll mostly survive, and on Friday I'll know how much of the list survived with me.

That's it for this one. Short, like I promised. Now I need a fucking beer.
